A native of St. Louis, Dr. Vezeau attended both Catholic and public schools in the St. Louis area. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Geology with academic honors in 1980 and being in the Marching Mizzou Drum Line. He continued his studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, receiving his DDS degree and induction into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies in 1984. Dr. Vezeau then served his country in the US Navy, where he completed a Hospital General Practice Dentistry residency at the US Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virginia, where he was exposed in depth to all facets of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He next served as the Dental Department head aboard the helicopter carrier USS GUADALCANAL, including a number of overseas deployments. While in oral and maxillofacial surgery residency, he continued in the US Naval Reserve.
Undertaking residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Dr. Vezeau earned his Master of Science degree and was awarded the Donald B. Osbon resident research award in 1991. He then practiced oral and maxillofacial surgery in the Quad Cities, Iowa area for 11 years, during which time he served as an adjunct professor in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. Dr. Vezeau then joined Oral Surgery Associates, PC in 2003.
Dr. Vezeau is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, for which he serves as a Board Examiner. He also is involved in developing oral and written examinations for the Board. He is also certified by the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology; and is past president of the Iowa Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Scott County Dental Society, the Davenport District Dental Society, and the Sioux City Dental Society. He has conducted basic research in his specialty and has a number of publications in professional journals and texts; and has been in leadership positions in local, regional, and national organization in his specialty. He is a Fellow in both the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Vezeau is also a member of the American and Iowa Dental Associations, the Northwest Iowa District Dental Society, and the Sioux City Dental Society. He actively practices the full scope of his specialty, with special interest in dental implants, reconstructive jaw surgery, trauma, and obstructive sleep apnea.
Dr. Vezeau met his wife Debbie while both were residents at the University of Iowa, where they were married in 1990. The Vezeau family makes their home in Sioux City where their children have attended Sioux City public schools. In his spare time, he is involved in percussion performance, flying as a private pilot, exercise, politics, cheering on the Sioux City North High Stars, traveling to see his daughters (at Kansas and Cornell Universities), and planning that next family trip.
